FSMA: Courses for Preventive Controls Qualified Individual PCQI

The USA have updated their food safety regulation by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) consisting in 7 rules of which some are effective since September 2016. Specifically, the rules affecting those businesses exporting to USA are Preventive Controls for Human Food and Animal Food (PCHF – PCAF) and the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP). The first two Rules require that a food manufacturer and processor identifies an individual (within or outside their business) enabled to act as Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).A Preventive Controls Qualified Individual PCQI means a qualified individual who has successfully completed training in the development and application of risk-based preventive controls. The PCQI's are then in charge of the Preventive Controls Food Safety System of a food manufacturer and hence responsible for FSMA Preventive Controls compliance.

Each PCQI candidate must complete a training under a standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). The Preventive Controls Qualified Individual for Human Food training course was developed by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA). The FSPCA Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance was created by the FDA to ease the comprehension of the new regulatory framework. This course recognized by the FSPCA as “Standardized training curriculum” lasts 20 hours (or 2.5 days) and can be solely performed by a Lead Instructor for the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food.

Since October 2016, RPN EXCELLENCE AG is Lead Instructor for the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food (Certificate# 290668b0) and offers Preventive Control classes to food professionals and food safety officers in Switzerland and other European Countries.
